Leaving

Some months ago, we saw Hostel and decided we needed to travel. After considering a European tour, we realized we didn't have the money to spend any decent time there. Plus, February is way too fucking cold.

Now today we leave the US for southeast Asia carrying only one bag each and a few changes of underpants. We've also got 8gb of photo storage and no real plans or money. This will be totally awesome.

For what it's worth, here are the three things that helped me most on the road. They were in Europe, now, but for what they're worth:

1) Learn to love plastic bags. Keep toiletries in one, underwear in one, socks in one, use different colors so that when you need to find things quick you can and they still stay organized.

2) Big breakfasts at hostels are usually free. Bread and fruit fits in your bag nicely when no one's looking.

3) Get to the new town, go straight to the visitor info center and grab pamphlets and walk out. Then go somewhere untouristy, like maybe back to wherever you're staying, to spread them out and look at what you can do for how little and make up your itinerary as you go.

BEST OF LUCK WONDERFUL PEOPLES!
